I caught wind of this last week while on vacation, and I confirmed today that James Moore has resigned as Thrasher’s head football coach. He’ll be defensive coordinator at Curry High School in Jasper, Ala. He’s a native of Vernon and played at North Alabama.
Moore emphasized that his leaving had nothing to do with Thrasher, which has had 13 straight losing seasons (2-8 last fall). He just wanted to get closer to home.
The Rebels have some key starters returning, including tailback O’Bryan Taylor and quarterback Rusty Landry. The team’s problem has always been numbers, but participation was up under Moore both last season and this spring. You’ll recall that Thrasher won the Class 1A state powerlifting title, which may or may not translate to football success (ask Mooreville how that’s gone).
