I’m saddened – and angry – to report that the All-Area baseball and fast-pitch softball teams will not be unveiled this Sunday as promised. This is due to some technical issues that I don’t fully understand, so I’m not even going to try to explain it. But the end result is that instead of our usual 10-page section, we’ve got only six this Sunday. One of the joys of working at a small newspaper.
So the package will run the next Sunday, June 15. Great, now I’ve got a whole week to second-guess the selections. And it has been a tough process, aided greatly by area high school and juco coaches’ insights, but also enjoyable. It’s nice to be able to recognize kids for their accomplishments.
On the upside, I’ll be out of the state on vacation next Sunday, which means I won’t have to deal with any angry phone calls I might get from hyper-sensitive mothers whose son or daughter didn’t make the cut.
Anyway, a reminder about tomorrow’s all-star games in Fulton (basketball) and Pearl (baseball). Look for a story in Saturday’s Journal on Calhoun City’s Dante’ Jennings, who’s playing in the NEMBCA basketball game.
