No, I’m Not on Vacation

Just been toiling on this All-Area business. Plus, there’s jack squat going on right now.

Actually, we did have a little news crop up today. Alan Wood has resigned as Kossuth’s softball coach. The job has been posted for about a week now, but he kept this under the radar. I’ll have a story on it in Thursday’s Journal.

Some reminders of what’s coming up:

• The baseball and softball All-Area teams will be unveiled in Sunday’s editions. It’s the top 30 from each sport – first, second and third teams. Thanks to all the coaches who submitted nominations. Those who didn’t, you know who you are. I’ll direct the angry mom calls to you.

• The NEMBCA All-Star Basketball Games are on Saturday at 1 p.m. They’re being held at ICC’s Davis Event Center – a sweet facility – because Northeast is doing work on Bonner Arnold Coliseum. Several good players have backed out of the event or couldn’t play. You might have noticed Jeremy Newsome‘s name absent. He’s worthy, but the coaches got scared off by his well-publicized academic problems.

• Also Saturday, the Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star Baseball Games will be held at Trustmark Park in Pearl. Our own Brandon Speck will be on hand, and I’m sure he’ll blog live at bspeck.wordpress.com. The 4A/5A game is at 1 p.m., the 1A/2A/3A game at 6.

• I’ve thought of bringing something back just for the summer: the old page 2 column I used to write (remember?). We’ll see.

  1. You going to be in Fulton this weekend?

  2. Yes, I will. See you there?
