It’s a beautiful day for baseball. It’s the final day of the MHSAA state championships, with two games remaining. At 4 p.m., Hamilton takes on Richton in the 2A finals; following at 7 will be Tupelo and Ocean Springs in 5A.

Hamilton actually returned home last night after its 1-0 win. Must be a superstitious thing – coach Lewis Earnest kept his team down here last season after Game 1, and it lost Game 2 thanks to four errors. I don’t know, the guys might be tired from all that traveling, but coach knows best.

Tupelo has been off since winning Game 2 on Friday. Joseph Koon (4-1) will strap on his flak jacket and start today for Tupelo. The Golden Wave has faced elimination in every round, so I expect they’ll be relaxed. Channing Walker said on his blog that they’ll be ready to go as they seek the school’s first state title in 15 years.

Congrats to Mooreville on a fine season. Sumrall was just too much in the 3A series.

I’ll be blogging live from tonight’s games, and you Hamilton fans can also check out Brandon Speck‘s blog.
