State Finals: Hamilton vs. Richton

Box score:

Hamilton 1, Richton 0
Richton 000 000 0 – 0 4 0
Hamilton 000 001 x – 1 5 1
WP: Chase Reeves (8-2). LP: Jordan Cochran (9-3).
Multiple hits: (H) Dylan Earnest. 2B: (R) Myles Mayo; (H) Skyler Conwill.
Records: Richton 25-7, Hamilton 24-10.

Top 7th: Uh-oh. Hamilton makes an error to the first batter. Sound familiar? … Reeves strikes out a pair of Rebels. Runner still on first, one out to go. … Flyout to end the game. Great outing by Reeves: A four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and one walk. Game 3 will be Tuesday at either 1 or 4 p.m., depending on what happens in the Mooreville-Sumrall game, which starts at 7.

Bottom 6th: Dylan Earnest gets a leadoff single for Hamilton. It’s the Lions’ third hit of the game and their first since the third inning. And Cole Johnson follows with a single. Meeting at the mound. … Skyler Conwill just stroked a one-out RBI double. Hamilton’s up 1-0, and looks like Cochran is done. Yep. The aforementioned Mr. Smith takes the hill. … Smith minimized the damage by getting a pop-out and strikeout. Hamilton’s three outs away from forcing a Game 3 tomorrow.

Middle 6th: Hamilton just escaped a little jam. Richton had runners at the corners with two outs, but Reeves got Tilur Smith, Richton’s clean-up hitter, to foul out. Still scoreless. Reeves has struck out six.

End 5th: Guess what? Hamilton stranded another. Props to Cochran, though. He induced three pop-ups this inning. Actually four, but the catcher dropped one in foul territory. A pitcher’s duel! Hamilton has two hits, Richton three.

End 4th: No score. Another Lion left on base. They’re gonna regret this later.

End 3rd: Hamilton strands two more. The Lions have only two hits, but they’ve stranded five. And two more were cut down on fielder’s choices. No score.

Top 3rd: Richton has two on, no out. Reeves has been getting hit pretty hard so far, and a couple finally fell for Richton. … Reeves escapes with a fielder’s choice, a pickoff, and a strikeout.

End 2nd: No score. Hamilton stranded two more. Just pokin’ along.

End 1st: No score. Hamilton left a runner at second on Travis Frembgen‘s strikeout.

Starters: Chase Reeves (7-2) for Hamilton; Jordan Cochran for Richton. Three-up, three-down for Reeves in the top of the first. Due up for Hamilton: Isaac Winders, Kevin McCartney, Reeves.

Game 2 will go off at 4 p.m. Richton won Game 1 on Saturday, 4-2. The Rebels won it all last year; Hamilton lost in the 1A finals last season. The Lions are seeking their fourth state title under coach Lewis Earnest. I’ll be blogging throughout the game, as well as during the 7 p.m. Mooreville-Sumrall 3A game. Stay tuned!
