Super Tuesday in Review

Good morning. We had quite a day yesterday, what with all the baseball, softball, golf and tennis stories we had. I haven’t actually seen a hard copy of today’s sports section, but I’m sure it’s of award-winning caliber. Speaking of which, our section was named best in the state in the Mississippi Press Association contest, beating out papers like the Clarion-Ledger and Sun-Herald. Great job all-around, from sports editor John Pitts on down.

We had so much stuff in the paper, we had to hold my story on new Lafayette basketball coach Teague Burchfield. That’ll get in Thursday. Here’s what did get in:

1A softball: Sisk leads East Webster to third straight title

3A softball: Kingpins hold off upstart Nettleton

Wave juniors well-armed, tame Jaguars

Wright start, great finish for Braves

Sparks’ finale a winner

IAHS golf counts on experience

I’ll post the baseball North/South half schedule later, with game times for NeMiss teams.

  1. Congrats to all – it is a well deserved (IMO overdue) recognition for all that you guys do for us sports junkies in Northeast MS…

I’m proud of the Journal and always have enjoyed the way they cover ALL the surrounding area that they’re involved with, unlike the Clarion Ledger.

I can understand being away from NEMS for them, but if everything wasn’t Jackson Prep, Pearl, NWR, etc. there I wouldn’t be complaining. Statewide newspapers are supposed to be statewide, not just metro area. I don’t really blame them though, they’re in the business of selling newspapers and advertising to the target audience is their goal.
