New Coaches at Lafayette, Houlka

Lafayette County finally has a new basketball coach. Teague Burchfield was approved Monday to take over a team that went 3-25 last season and saw six players dismissed by then-coach Charles Beene.

Burchfield was an assistant the past seven years at Madison Central. He helped turn a moribund program into a winner – the Jaguars have earned four division titles and the 2006 state championship since he joined the staff.

In Houlka, the Wildcats’ fledgling football program has a coach. Adam Gore first reported that Rob Allen was approved Monday. He was the ninth-grade coach at Terry and has six years’ experience.

I’ll have more on Burchfield in Wednesday’s Journal. Not so sure about Allen, just because I can’t get anybody on the phone, and I’ve got other things to do today, like whacking some weeds in my yard and covering some softball.
