This is, by far, the busiest week of the year in prep sports around here. I can’t decide if I’m excited or not.
It’s made even busier by the baseball playoffs being pushed back due to rain. There are five series involving NeMiss teams being played today, and three of those series will play Game 3, if necessary, on Tuesday (Lewisburg-Mooreville and Senatobia-Ripley will play two today, if needed). Also today and Tuesday is the inaugural Girls Golf State Tournament in Pearl – we’ve got three teams and two other individuals down there. The Class 2A Boys Golf State Tournament also is scheduled for today and Tuesday, at Refuge Golf Club in Flowood.
The fast-pitch softball finals – Games 2 and 3 – are set for Tuesday. We’ve got Nettleton at Newton Co. (Class 3A) and Smithville at East Webster (1A).
But wait, there’s more. The Class 3A boys golf begins Tuesday at Amory and concludes Wednesday. And Wednesday is when things really get fun: 4A golf at Saltillo, 5A golf at Tupelo (both finish up Thursday), and the tennis team championships in Ridgeland and Jackson.
Whew. Thursday, the tennis concludes with individual championships. As I said, golf wraps up. Baseball gets back into gear with the North finals, and it will continue Friday and Saturday. Speaking of Friday and Saturday, that’s when the state track and field meet will be held at Pearl.
There you have it. I don’t think I left anything out. I hope not. I’m out of breath after typing this.
Oh, and no prep page this week, for obvious reasons.
