The MPSA baseball playoffs start this week. Marshall Aca. is the only NeMiss to thus far qualify. Here are the brackets.
I feel the need to reflect on Saturday’s Mooreville-Nettleton game. I hesitate to call slugfests great baseball, because an 18-16 score means the pitching was horrible. But there was simply some outstanding offensive performances that game, not least Ladarrius Cole’s. He used to bat leadoff for Nettleton, but first-year coach Matthew Addison dropped him into the three-hole after he saw Cole hit four doubles with no RBIs in a loss to Houston. Saturday, Cole was 4-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBIs.
The momentum swings were wild. Mooreville scored seven in the top of the third, and Nettleton responded with eight in the bottom half. Mooreville then scored eight in the top of the seventh but had to hold off a Nettleton rally; the Tigers had the winning run at the plate.
That series continues today at Mooreville. I expect it to go the full three games. You can see the schedule of games involving NeMiss teams in the previous post.
