Slow Monday

Well, I’m actually pretty busy, but I’ve got nothing worth blogging about. I’m trying to figure out the baseball playoff brackets. As for softball, Baldwyn hosts Hamilton in two games today; a few non-NeMiss teams are doing the same. Here’s Tuesday’s softball schedule, with the game times I have so far.

Class 5A North
Tupelo at Southaven, 5:30 p.m.
Clinton at Northwest Rankin (if necessary)
Class 5A South
Meridian at Terry (if necessary)
Petal at George Co.
Class 4A South
Stone at Long Beach (if necessary)
Brookhaven at Wayne Co.
D’Iberville at East Central
Class 3A North
Kossuth at Booneville, 5 p.m.
Nettleton at Winona, 5 p.m.
Mooreville at Corinth, 7 p.m.
Class 2A North
Hamilton at Baldwyn (if necessary)
Class 2A South
Union at Loyd Star
Seminary at St. Andrew’s (if necessary)
Our Lady Aca. at Enterprise Clarke (if necessary)
Class 1A South
Bogue Chitto at St. Aloysius

On a coaching note, here is today’s question: What do you think of Chip Johnson taking the Falkner job?

You probably know this by now, but Lafayette is not going to make up the game with Hernando. They have 4 games left to play and had to win out to take 2nd, so they are taking 3rd and not playing the Oxford or Lafayette game. Lafayette is going to play at Tupelo today at 4:00.

    2-1A #1 Ingomar
    #2 Calhoun City
    #3 Smithville
    #4 Vardaman

    3-1A #1 Myrtle
    #2 West Union
    #3 Hickory Flat
#4 Potts Camp or Coldwater (They play today and Potts Camp won the first time by 7 runs.)

    3-3A #1 Lewisburg
    #2 Senatobia
1-1A #1 Wheeler or Biggersville (They play today, with the winner getting the 1 seed with no tiebreakers.)
#2 Wheeler or Biggersville (Loser today)
    #3 Pine Grove
    #4 Falkner

I think all of these are right anyways.

  3. Thanks, guys. I’m going to try to slip out for a few innings of that Lafayette-Tupelo game. Hard to believe I haven’t seen the Wave play all season.

What do YOU think of Chip Johnson taking the Falkner job??

I understand Tishomingo County has some pretty difficult parents to deal with, but the quote in your article from Coach Johnson seems to be a personal shot at the players that played for him there. Five schools over a nine year period?? Is it all the parents and players that have caused him to move from four schools??

  5. I think you might be reading a little too much into his comments. I assume you’re referring to when he said, “I’m interested in getting to work with some kids that want to work hard.”

He didn’t really have that problem. There was the problem with one player, Tyler Walker, which I think most folks heard about. The higher-ups at Tish pressured Johnson to put the kid back on the team after he’d been dismissed. But Chip didn’t care to talk about any of that.

I’m not sure certain people at Tish know a good coach when they see one.
