I’m not the least bit shocked that Hamilton is having trouble hiring a new boys basketball coach. Brandon Speck of the Monroe County Journal explains why on his blog.
The block schedule in place in Monroe County is why Dwight Bowling left Smithville as football coach two years ago (be sure to read Jimmy Dahlem’s interesting comments in the linked story). I said then that the new schedule might put the schools behind in athletics, because no practices can start until school is out at 3 p.m.
Hamilton Athletics Director Ray Weeks is plainly miffed at his situation. None of the candidates wants to coach in Monroe County under the current conditions. I can’t blame them.
