Former West Union standout John Sexton, the 2006 Daily Journal Player of the Year, signed with Northeast Mississippi today. He was joined by Myrtle’s Grant Goolsby, Booneville’s Spence Wicks, Horn Lake’s Bruce Jacobs and Marshall Academy’s Nick Tate.
Sexton, a 6-foot-3 guard, played at William & Mary his freshman season. He averaged 2.5 points per game and hit 45% of his 3-pointers (18-40). The Tribe’s plodding style didn’t suit Sexton, an athletic, crafty player who can create masterpieces in the open floor.
Northeast went 17-12 last season and reached the semifinals of the Region 23 tournament.
