What a Way to End It

The 2008 MHSAA Basketball State Tournament went out in style Saturday night. Provine’s boys took an 82-76 double-overtime thriller against Greenville-Weston in the 5A title game.

Weston overcame an eight-point deficit in the final three-and-a-half minutes of regulation. Weston’s Akeem Richardson hit a driving layup with 6 seconds left for a 60-58 lead, but Carl Blair saved Provine’s season with a layup at the buzzer. That’s gettin’ it down the floor in a hurry.

Scottie Haralson drained a 3-pointer from the corner with 19 seconds left in the first OT to knot it at 72-all. In the second OT, Provine got ahead and stayed there thanks to free throws and big defensive stops.

Weston is a great team. Played their guts out and could have easily won this game.
