Final Day & Grand Slam

Because of the snow last night, there was some doubt as to whether today’s championship games would be postponed until Monday. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. The MHSAA sent out an e-mail this morning saying the games are on.

In 1A, Coldwater will play East Oktibbeha in girls, while Durant and East Webster battle in boys. Then tonight in 5A, it’ll be Greenville Weston vs. Murrah (girls) and Greenville Weston vs. Provine (boys).

There are two NeMiss teams in the Grand Slam already – three if you want to count New Hope – and East Webster could make it one more. The Wolverines lost to Durant by two points in the South final.

By the way, here’s how the Grand Slam will work: The 1A and 2A champs play on Thursday, and the winner plays the 4A champ on Friday. The other semi will be 3A vs. 5A. Next year, 3A will get the play-in winner, then 2A, 1A, etc. So if Coldwater (1A) and Gentry (4A) meet as unbeatens, it’ll be in the semifinals. Provine (5A) and New Hope (4A) is the likely matchup in the boys final.
