We’re Back! Franklin Co. vs. Alcorn Central

Final: FC 56, AC 51. Well, AC blew it. Didn’t make a field goal over the final 5:52, and even six straight missed free throws by FC in the final 1:13 couldn’t help the Lady Bears. Too bad, because AC outplayed FC for most of the game, just not when it counted most.

FC is up 52-49 with 1:28 to go. AC hasn’t scored since the 5:52 mark. Playing nervous, perhaps?

End of 3rd quarter: AC 43, FC 41. Alcorn’s getting some good looks, and only three turnovers. But they let up on defense a little over the last three-and-a-half minutes, when FC scored 10 points.

Halftime: Tied at 27-all. AC committed nine turnovers in the second quarter, mostly on passes that were plain dumb. Franklin’s defense didn’t have to work very hard for most of the giveaways. AC took only two shots over the final three minutes. On the upside, the Lady Bears held FC without a field goal for 7:28.

End of 1st quarter: AC 19, FC 15. The Lady Bears closed the quarter with a 12-2 run. Reserves Felicia McCalister and Terra Weeks each hit big 3-pointers.

Almost time to tip off the Class 3A girls semifinal game between Franklin County and your Alcorn Central Lady Golden Bears. Great National Anthem by a quartet of AC cheerleaders.

Thanks for the updates, Brad. I expect they’re are a lot of Central fans there? I’ve noticed the majority of NE Miss fans seem to travel better than any other region, at least from what I’ve seen.

  2. Yeah, good crowd. Estimated attendance is 850, and more than half are AC fans. Good student section, too. I’m going to do something later in the week on the local fans, who have traveled well for about every team.

Another hit to the MHSAA in my opinion. Imagine AC in the Grand Slam, the MHSAA would be cashing in with it being in Tupelo. Sucks that no area teams can get it done it seems like. I think it Starkville beats Provine they’ll bring a good crowd, and if HW Byers girls win state they’ll bring a good crowd too.
