South Panola 50, Hancock 31

JACKSON – Vetorra Cole scored 24 points to lead South Panola to a 50-31 win over Hancock on Friday in the Class 5A girls high school playoffs.

Sebrina Townsend added 13 points for South Panola (24-7) and Chasity Kearney chipped in 10.

South Panola used a 14-0 run to build a 22-11 halftime lead and never trailed after that.

Courtney Lacoste led Hancock (24-9) with 10 points.

Class 5A Boys
Starkville 61, Wingfield 54

JACKSON – Latavious Williams scored 19 second half points Friday to lead Starkville to a 61-54 victory over Jackson Wingfield in the Class 5A boys high school playoffs.

Starkville (28-3) had trailed Wingfield by a point at the half but pulled away in the final quarter. Starkville faces Jackson Provine in the semifinals next Thursday.

Latavious led all scorers in the game with 26 points. Other top Starkville scorers were Edward Townsel with 11 and Johathan Harris and Bryce Brown with 10 each.

Wingfield (29-6) was led by Chris Walklace with 16 points and Anthony Foster with 11.

Class 2A Girls
Philadelphia 55, Lake 39

JACKSON – Danielle Cole scored 23 points to lead Philadelphia to a 55-39 victory over Lake on Friday in the Class 2A girls high school basketball playoffs.

Shaniqua Blacks added 14 for Philadelphia (26-5) and Tiara Logan chipped in 12.

Philadelphia led 18-15 at halftime and built on that on lead in the second half.

Krista Donald scored 21 for Lake (17-13) and Yolanda Jones put 10 on the board.

Class 2A Boys
Newton 85, Hollandale Simmons 78

JACKSON – Chucky Curry scored 21 points to lead Newton to 46-29 victory over Hollandale Simmons on Friday in the Class 2A boys high school playoffs.

Steve Edwards added 19 points for Newton (33-4) and Antonio Grace chipped in 14.

Alex Savanah scored 23 pints to lead Hollandale Simmons (25-9), Leon Martin added 21 and James Alexander put 17 points on the board.

Newton led 46-29 at halftime. Simmons came to within 78-76 late in the final quarter, but Newton held on within the last two minutes.
