Kemper Co. vs. H.W. Byers

Final: Byers 55, Kemper 47. What a second half by Jones – 11 of her 15 points, and Ryan got going, too.

End of 3rd quarter: Byers 34, Kemper 33. Kemper had two free throws and no field goals.

A 10-0 Byers run – eight points by Jones – has tied it at 31-all with 3:11 to go in the third.

Halftime: Kemper Co. 31, H.W. Byers 21. Byers can’t buy a bucket, from inside or outside. Just won’t fall. Kemper is killing them inside, especially after Simone Ryan had to sit out the final 6:18 with three fouls. Point guard Rachel Jones is struggling: four points, two assists, no steals.

End of first quarter: Tied at 10-all. Byers started slow but has picked it up. Kemper’s hitting the offensive boards – got six of them already.

About to begin Day 6 of the state tournament, with H.W. Byers (North No. 1) taking on Kemper Co. (South No. 2) in the 2A girls semifinals. Byers is trying to reach its first-ever state championship game.

Brad, nothing to do with the tournament, but wanted to give you kudos for the baseball poll or whoever at the DJ came up with it. #2 TC beat #3 Oxford 2-1, with TC only getting 2 hits but only gave up 3 or 4 I believe. Oxford led for 5 innings but TC had a good bottom half of the fifth with Lee Griffin getting a single and Jon Whirley slapping one out. It was a great pitching battle. Brett Morgan pitched great for 5 innings and then let our ace Matt Davis finish it out for the last two innings. Can’t wait for the Tupelo/TC matchup in two weeks.

  2. Thanks. Although I saw where IAHS is 0-6 or something. Oh well, I’ll have a better idea by the time I do my next rankings, whenever that is. But yeah, I’d like to see how TC matches up with Tupelo.
