Looking Ahead
Class 3A: Payback time for Aberdeen’s girls?
JACKSON – Jameika Hoskins and Aberdeen get another shot at Raymond today.

The Lady Bulldogs were put out by the Lady Rangers in last year’s state quarterfinals.

Hoskins, then a freshman, had a good game with 21 points. But fellow frosh Valencia McFarland was a little better for Raymond, scoring 24 points with six assists in the 82-58 win.

Hoskins and McFarland are now sophomores, and both should have huge impacts when the teams tangle at 9 a.m. today in the Class 3A quarterfinals. Aberdeen (29-6) is the North No. 2 seed, while Raymond (32-2) is the South No. 3.

At 2:30 p.m., Ripley’s boys open their fourth straight state tournament against Pass Christian (30-6), the South No. 2 seed.

While Ripley (28-4, North No. 3) has plenty of experience in the Big House, Pass Christian hasn’t played in the state tournament since 1925.
