Final: Raymond 54, Aberdeen 37. The Lady Rangers have quite the inside-out combo. Janairrika Bland (6-foot-3) had 17 points and 17 rebounds; lightning-fast guard Valencia McFarland had 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Ripley’s boys play Pass Christian at 2:30 today in 3A. Not sure if I’ll have internet access.
Halftime: Raymond 31, Aberdeen 6. Valencia McFarland is too fast, and Raymond’s post players are too big. And Aberdeen is shooting 2-for-26 from the floor (that’s 8.9 percent).
Oh well, there goes another team. Raymond led 19-1 after one quarter and is up 25-5 right now.
Almost time for the only morning session of the tournament to start. (Yawn.) Aberdeen is going to take on Raymond, which knocked the Lady Bulldogs out of the tourney last season. Thanks goes out to Brandon Speck for letting me use his computer to update this blog; no ethernet for me today.
Alcorn Central’s entire girls teams is here to watch. They don’t play until Monday – against the Franklin Co.-North Panola winner – but coach Charlette Foster wanted to get her players acclimated to the environment. They left at 3 a.m. today and will return to Glen this afternoon.
