Hotbed Classic

Pretty good lineup for the 2008 Hotbed Classic, which will be played Jan. 19 at New Albany. However, only half the field includes NeMiss teams, and three games don’t even involve area squads.

10 a.m. – West Union vs. Mooreville
11:15 – Nettleton vs. Belmont
12:30 p.m. – New Albany vs. East Union
2:00 – Ingomar vs. Grenada
3:30 – Olive Branch vs. Antioch, Tenn.
5:00 – Columbus vs. Hayes, Ala.
6:30 – Briarcrest, Tenn. vs. Northeast Lauderdale
8:00 – Myrtle vs. DeSoto Central

Brad that still looks like a strong lineup to me. The Hotbed always puts out a great lineup and it looks like they have again this year. I know that Olive Branch and Columbus have both been ranked in the top 10 in Ms & MSU commit Romero Osby from Ne Lauderdale is the top Sr in state. Briarcrest always has a strong team so I think it is more than just a pretty good lineup.

  2. Yes, it is a strong lineup, but mostly because of the non-NeMiss teams involved. I’m all for bringing in good teams, but it would be nice to see more (good) local flavor. Myrtle and Ingomar are the only DJ-ranked teams in it, and only one area team above the 3A level is playing.

But again, I don’t want to sound like I’m degrading it. Anyone who calls himself a basketball fan would enjoy this tournament.

I’m definitely going to try and go. Watching Romero Osby play should be well worth the price of admission.

You know that Tupelo had to withdraw from the Hotbed because of getting put on probation. So that is one good local team that was playing and you can’t blame the Hotbed people for that.
