Tupelo Hoops on Probation

This is from senior writer Gene Phelps. Read more about the story in Tuesday’s Daily Journal.

Tupelo High School’s boys basketball team has been placed on probation for the remainder of the 2007-08 regular season by the Mississippi High School Activities Association for a rules violation involving a non-sanctioned practice game.

The team will not be allowed to participate in the its remaining tournament games, including this weekend’s Coach “C” Classic at Lafayette County High School.

However, the team will be allowed to participate in division and state postseason play.

School officials said the Golden Wave, coached by David Ball, played a practice game Nov. 28 against an Alabama high school, which is against MHSAA rules.

Any team interested in filling Tupelo’s vacancy in Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. Coach “C” Classic game against Hernando is asked to contact Lafayette County coach Charles Beene at (662) 416-1646.
