I'm 32, married with four (mostly) sweet children. I finally figured out I was a writer halfway through college. My parents knew it long before, but as I used to hate writing – the result, I'm sure, of all those high school term papers – I didn't catch on.
Now I'm assistant sports editor for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, and I love my job. I love the area, too. I'm originally from Oxford, though I graduated from Ruston (La.) High School (1990 state champs!).
I have a blast covering all our high school teams; frankly, I don't know that I'll ever want to cover anything else. A college or pro beat would be nice, but there's too much dishonesty, scandal and selfishness on those levels.
I'll stick with the kids.
